Life Recap

My last link recap was so popular so I’m back with another one for July, and adding in a little life recap to it as well! Johnny and I kicked off last month by spending the 4th of July at my parents’ home in Maine, where we also were with my parents, my sister and her boyfriend, my parents-in-law, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend, and my best friend and her husband. We took up our house, our neighbor’s guest house, and another one of our neighbor’s garage apartments. It was a full, fun-packed long weekend that centered around a (rowdy) family olympic tournament that my mom devised and we all participated in.

For the “olympics,” each couple got to pick an American state that they represented, and there was a full on costume competition, complete with a walk-out debut during the “opening ceremonies” (see the picture above) with songs that represented each state. The olympic games included chipping the golf ball into an inner tube in the lake, having a timed kayak race, playing cornhole and Fishbowl, and a few others. In between the competition (I swear I was born into, and then married into the most competitive families of all time), we barbecued, floated in the lake (this two-person float was the MVP), explored the nearby city of Portland, and then ended the weekend with a schooner sailboat cruise in the Portland Harbor (also pictured above!). Oh and we celebrated the 4th of July on the lake! There’s a kid’s camp on our lake that always puts on the fireworks, and it’s the cutest. See our family pictures from the 4th of July here!

The weekend after that we celebrated my father-in-law’s 70th birthday out in East Hampton, where my parents-in-law rented a house for us all. Johnny’s brother and his wife recently had their first baby, so it ended up being so nice for us all to get together with them and soak up their precious new baby boy. To say we all adore him would be an understatement! Some of the highlights of the weekend included hiking Shadmoor State Park in Montauk (pictured above, I wore this tennis dress for it!), and getting the chicken fingers from Round Swamp Farm. OMG I’m still thinking about those.

THEN as if weren’t traveling enough in July, we decided to drive out to Quogue on Long Island to spend the following weekend with our best friends, Kaeli and Ryan, who’s parents have a stunning home there. I’m really close with their one and a half year old, Lennie, so it was a blast to both hang with them and see Lennie in her element in the pool/running around. I included my East Hampton and Quogue recommendations here!

We rounded out the month with a must-needed weekend at our apartment in NYC just Johnny and I, and I also got in some girl time with a few friends in the city as well. Speaking of girl time, it’s been two years since I had my Bachelorette in St. Barts, so I shared this little throwback for that as well. It weirdly feels like just yesterday but also a lifetime ago!

Of course everything I just shared is very much a highlight reel, so there are always days and situations that never make my Instagram or recaps. I recently switched up the medications I take (I was on Lexapro and had a great experience with it), but have been testing being meds-free (for a variety of reasons) and it’s definitely come with it’s share of highs and lows. I do feel like I’m almost on the other side of the detox-stage though, and I have a lot of thoughts on my experience both on and off Lexapro and other medications (also this goes without being said but changing your medication should be done with a doctor’s supervision/guidance). I know this is not something I usually talk about (on here that is), but it’s been a huge part of the latter half of my year so far, and something that I will probably bring up more as I can better verbalize my experience as a newly 30-year-old with longstanding anxiety who *thinks* that I’ve recently had a new breakthrough with balancing my body.

And that’s it on July– chicken fingers and anxiety, what’s more on brand than that!

What else am I missing link-wise that I can share? xx
