Showering Our Thumbelina
Last week my mom and sister threw the most darling, special, hysterical, and FUN baby shower I could have ever dreamt up. It was beautifully photographed by my friend Kate above, and you can see a video of it here as well. They hosted it in the “Greenhouse Room” at Rosemary’s East in NYC, and we had 30 of my dearest friends and family attend to celebrate our sweet Thumbelina!
In true Deb and Jacqueline form, they didn’t miss a single detail and everything was so thoughtful. The theme was “baby in bloom” since my word for 2025 is “bloom” (I chose it in December because of its the definition “to produce an abundant life,” and a month later I found out I was pregnant!).
There was also an emphasis on tulips, since my mom wallpapered my first nursery with tulips, they happen to be Johnny’s favorite flower (go figure 😂), and they also have the sweetest meaning of love, renewal, and beauty. The decor theme of baby girl’s nursery is tulips (I’ll share more on that soon!), so it was sweet to tie the symbol into her shower as well.
You’ll also notice a few fairy and “Thumbelina” references– which has been baby girl’s nickname ever since we found out that she’s a girl. I called my sister Thumbelina when my mom was pregnant with her, and it just kind of stuck, all these years later, for my pregnancy as well. It also doesn’t hurt that Thumbelina was the precious little Disney fairy that was born in a flower herself!
Throughout the shower we enjoyed “Thumbelina Spritzes” (aka Hugo Spritzes, and sprite for me!), and indulged in fresh salads, rigatoni, and wood-fired pizzas– all of my favorite foods. I gave a little toast to everyone who was there, about how Thumbelina is the luckiest to have them all to look up to and love throughout her life. Then I opened up a few gifts (which I wasn’t planning on doing but then ended up loving), in between three games that Deb and Jacq had orchestrated: Baby Trivia (all various questions about Johnny and me as babies– pictured above!), “Who’s That Baby?” (where you had to match the baby shower attendee to the baby photo that they sent Jacq beforehand! Absolutely hysterical), and a baby relay where we had broke into teams that had to race to put on the diapers of baby dolls while blindfolded (you can buy the set here!). Let me tell you, we are a competitive group and these three were seriously so much fun.
The guests went home with prizes they won from the games, which were all based off of my cravings/comforts that I’ve had during pregnancy, and tulip/teddy bear-shaped gummies… as a little “something sweet” from our “sweet baby-to-be.” 😊 And of course the baby daddy himself 😂 showed up in a pink blazer with a magnum bottle of rosé in hand for my first postpartum drink… he truly knows the way to my heart. 😉
We stayed far past our allotted time (classic) and continued the party back at our apartment after. I loved having the shower on a Saturday afternoon– nobody had to run home to finish their weekend to-do list or prepare for the week ahead, and we could just hang out and relax all day and into the night. We had friends over until like 11 pm… truly wouldn’t want it any other way! It was such a memorable day that I cannot wait to tell our baby girl about in the future. She is already SO loved and we haven’t even met her yet. The best is yet to come. 💗
