Hi! It’s the start of a new week, a new month, and a the new summer season! All of this change calls for a detoxing juice cleanse– something my friends and I just experienced! Since we are split up for the summer and away from college, each tried our own juice cleanse. The goal was to rid our bodies of toxins and normalize our digestion and metabolism systems. It was not a particularly easy thing to do– giving up food for three (yes, THREE) whole days and switching to green vegetable juice. But, we all survived to share our experiences!
AMY:

I used the BluePrint Renovation cleanse— they deliver the juices right to your front door!

It came all wrapped up in ice packs with an instructional pamphlet that read, “Welcome to your cleanse!” At this point I was very intimidated, but I immediately started drinking my first one. My life for the next three days revolved around putting the juice in various cute tumblers to make me drink them faster, doing yoga to distract myself from my pantry, thinking about peanut butter, complaining when my friends went to Chipotle and I sat there with my juice (I know, that was HORRIBLE), exfoliating my body as per suggested by the juice pamphlet, and dreaming about more peanut butter– did I mention the slight cravings that occurred during my cleanse?!

Here’s what the juices looked like. They were numbered for me to drink in order throughout the day. My favorite was number 6 which was cashew milk with cashews, agave nectar, vanilla, and cinnamon! They actually all tasted pretty good and I was able to drink all of them without any major breakdowns (my family would say differently, they claim that they themselves were cleansed just by watching me do this– and they forbid me from cleansing again!) However, when I was finally finished, I felt energized, healthy, and proud of myself for sticking with it. I now occasionally pick up one of these juices at my local market and have it instead of a meal, which the less extreme way of detoxing!

JESSICA (Dallas, TX) & KELLY (Bethesda, MD):

Kelly and I had been loosely talking about doing a juice
cleanse essentially all second semester. We desired the promised light, fresh
feeling that everyone said happens after you finish those three days. But,
juicing isn’t the most budget friendly trend and requires some serious
dedication so I didn’t pull that trigger until just last week! I ordered my
juices from Roots Pressed Juices in Uptown Dallas and they were delivered cold
each morning to my front door (major plus!). I am definitely a creature of
convenience so I opted for a juicing regimen that wouldn’t make me change my
morning routine. I was so excited to
start. Fast forward three days later…I never wanted to see beets, ginger, or
carrots ever again. I went from so excited to so over it so fast. But, after
those three long, hard days I lost six pounds and definitely saw my skin
clearing up, my eyes brightening, and just an overall lighter feeling. I also
learned a lot about listening to my body and controlling cravings. Overall, I
couldn’t say I would run down the street to Roots and do another cleanse
anytime soon, but I had a great experience at a juicing newbie. Let’s just say
I’ll be sticking to the post-lunch juice treat.

ANNIE (from my hometown in NJ):

After finishing my freshman year of college, I thought the best way to clear my body of toxins and to start the summer off right would be to do a juice cleanse. I signed up at a local juice place and started the following week, little did I know how challenging it would be. I felt great the whole day until around 5 or 6 where I would find myself craving real food as my family sat around the table eating dinner. If you’re someone looking to try a juice cleanse I recommend keeping yourself busy and away from the TV with tempting food commercials. So after three days it’s fair to say by the end I was ready for some soda and pizza. After researching and reading numbers websites, I learned my dreams of eating unhealthy would still have to wait a while when I learned how to break a juice cleanse with healthy eating only. After two full days of just fruits and vegetables and careful eating, I was back to eating real food. I definitely did not crave unhealthy food like I did during my cleanse. Although this cleanse was difficult it was fulfilling and worth the hunger because I feel healthy and cleansed to say the least! Also I recommend doing the cleanse with friends so you can help each other get through it and have someone to complain with!

Lots of juice cleanse love to Jessica, Kelly, and Annie for sharing their cleansing experiences! We would love to hear if you’ve done a juice cleanse too! Hope you’re having a fabulous start to June!

love&pink,
Amy, Jessica, Kelly, and Annie
