Amy Littleson McNitt August 2024 Recap

Life Recap

Last month I kicked off a new monthly blog series, where I share a mini life recap, as well as the most popular links I’ve been posting recently. Now I’m at it again for the month of August.

We kicked off August with a week at my parents’ lake home in Maine. Johnny’s work had remote August for the month, which allowed us to stay there during the week. It was truly such a gorgeous time in Maine– the lake literally feels like bath water and we just hung out with my parents and enjoyed being outside. I also shared the outfits that my mom wore while I was there, which seriously couldn’t be cuter. You can shop them here.

After that we spent most of the weekdays of August in NYC, but had a weekend in LBI, a weekend in the city (where I celebrated the engagement of my dear friend and Little from Theta), and Johnny saw Kenny Chesney (his favorite) at MetLife Stadium. Mid-month we also got a flat tire in my car, caused by a screw that was lodged into it that I think we picked up in our drive back from Maine. This led us to debate whether or not we should continue keeping my car in the city or sell it. We use it nearly every weekend from May-August, but maybe once a month in the other months, so it’s hard to justify the parking garage cost in the fall/winter/spring. But then again the cost of rental cars now is also insane, so there’s no real good answer. I feel lucky we can have one at all in the city though, so we may keep it another year and just eat the cost of the garage in the winter months because it seems to be worth it.

At the end of the month Johnny and I took a long weekend at the Inn at Perry Cabin on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They kindly hosted us in exchange for me covering and photographing the property, and it was such a serene and stunning place. If you’re looking for a destination on the east coast for a honeymoon, babymoon, anniversary trip, or family vacation, the Inn at Perry Cabin is a dreamy spot for any of those. We did see a number of babies and families staying there, which I think was due to it being right before Labor Day and back to school start dates, so it’s family friendly but still has a five star appeal. My favorite part about it was its location on the Miles River and proximity to the town of St. Michaels, which has so much American history, adorable shops, and really good seafood dining. You can grab a bike from the inn and ride into town in under three minutes, which we really took advantage of. Also I should note that we had one of the best burgers we’ve ever had in our LIVES at Ruse in St. Michaels. It’s literally worth visiting for that burger alone. You can find a mini travel guide and the rest of our recommendations here

For Labor Day Weekend we met my parents in LBI because my dad had off from work and could leave Maine. Jacqueline and her boyfriend were there too, and we played lots of pickleball, spent lots of time witht Liberty, watched the US Open, and hosted friends for drinks and dinner. Truly the most on brand way to round out the incredible summer.

Speaking of summer things, I’m almost done with this darling book, which takes place in a little coastal town and is very much a Hallmark-type mystery and love story that I cannot get enough of. I just ordered this one to get me into the fall mood now too. I’m about to embark on three international trips in the next month, so I’ll have lots of plane time to read coming up! September/October will be particularly fun months to share, so be sure to follow along on Instagram throughout. 😊
