House of Turk to the Rescue
My winter to summer wardrobe changeover is COMPLETE. And I have no shame in admitting that this is the second time that Kate, of House of Turk, has swooped in and saved me from ending up under a pile of my own clothes. 😊
Kate, who has become a good friend of mine, is a designer and organizer extraordinaire, and first redid my closet a few months ago. Read all about it, and see the before/after photos, in my “Apartment Closet Makeover with House of Turk” blog post. I really go into a lot of the Q&A’s about the closet, and Kate, as well in that post!
This time around, our goal wasn’t to do a complete closet overhaul, but to change over my closet from my winter styles to my spring/summer styles. I would say that 95% of my clothing (and the things that I own) are in my apartment bedroom, whereas the additional 5% is scattered between my parents’ places in Vero Beach, PA, and Long Beach Island. Therefore, there is a LOT in my apartment bedroom in Philadelphia, which doesn’t have a whole lot of storage (only one pretty standard sized closet), so most of it has to be stored under my bed. So much so that there isn’t room enough for my suitcases, which I keep in my car 😊. Apartment city living, anyone?!
Storing half of my wardrobe in bins under my bed works well for me right now, and I switch everything over twice a year. It’s really starting to warm up in PA now, so Kate and I decided to switch over my closet this past Saturday, so I would now have access to all of my shift dresses, little lace tops, and summer sandals in the months to come.
See You, Christmas Clothes!
We put all of my sweaters and wintery clothes in bins under my bed (yes, that’s a whole bin dedicated to Christmas clothing 😉 ), situated all of my brightest statement clutches so they were front and center, overall organized my clothes so I would be able to easily see and reach for my summeriest items. It’s been a few days since the closet changeover, and let me tell you… my closet feels SO much airier and lighter now. I seriously want to spend so much more time in my room every day, just puttering around my closet (who even says that?!).
The closet changeover took us about five hours from start to finish, which is about one third of the time it would’ve taken me to do myself (again, Kate is truly a time and closet saver). I am getting a new dresser for beside my bed, so we are most likely going to do another mini organization day and focus on my dresser drawers… anything else you’d like to see us tackle?! I like to think of this as real-life organization, you know, for when there’s a walk-in closet in your dreams, but the reality is that you’re working with a city apartment closet in the meantime. 😉 Thank you, Kate, House of Turk, for making my closet a total dream come true either way. 🙂 xx
