What’s in My Beach Bag?
Hello from the pristine beaches of Jamaica! I am currently on a spring break getaway with my girlfriends, soaking up the sun and indulging in frozen fruity drinks in Montego Bay, Jamaica!! Hello from the pristine beaches of Jamaica! I am currently on a spring break getaway with my girlfriends, soaking up the sun and indulging in frozen fruity drinks in Montego Bay, Jamaica!! While I’ve managed to leave my school work behind, I am never without my laptop (it’s like a third arm to me, really). However, when I’m not online or writing, you can find me with my beach bag in tow, at the beach or pool. Even though I try to remain as low maintenance as possible at the beach, there are a few absolute necessities that I cannot live without having in my beach bag.
My bag: This is an old jelly Tory Burch bag that doubles as the perfect travel and beach bag {here’s a similar one}. The outside is semi-clear so it is always easy to find things. It also doesn’t hurt that I am able to wipe it down when it gets sandy, which is often because I don’t mind sand at all. (My mom tells me that as a child I would drop bagels into the sand and pick them up and eat them without thinking twice… clearly I was a beach-born girl from Day 1).
Bikini top: I recently purchased this top and it was a steal! I am all over the palm tree pattern trend this season, so this fun bandeau top was a no-brainer. I adore the funky cut-out as well! Don’t worry, I wear the bottoms too…
Sunscreen: I use three types of sunscreen religiously (you can never be too aggressive with your sun protection..). The types that work best for me are:
Neutrogrena Clear Face SPF 30: There’s nothing worse than breaking out from a product you put on your face. This lotion is ultra-light and has never clogged my pores or elicited even the tiniest of pimples (ew). I apply it as often as I can during the day and just love how non-oily it is even when my face sweats from the sun and collects salt from the ocean (ew again, but so true).
Australian Gold SPF 30 Spray: This spray smells So. Good. Like coconut-tropical-sunshine-paradise good. It is so easy to spray on generously everywhere and know you’re covered and smelling divine.
Sun Bum SPF 30: This is another SPF 30 alternative that is conveniently small enough to fit in the pocket of my cover up or in a clutch I would bring to lunch. This one smells amazing too– like bananas– and applies smooth and even.
Sunglasses: I recently indulged in these tortoise shell beauties and am so happy that I did. They are polarized, which is a must for me because I have sensitive eyes and wear contacts all the time. They also just so happen to go with absolutely everything, so I never have to struggle to match my sunglasses to my bathing suit or cover up. It’s all about convenience and protection at the beach for me, and these fit both perfectly.
People Style Watch: I feel like I never get to actually sit down and leisurely flip through a magazine, which is why I make that a priority when I go on vacation. If there’s an activity I love almost as much as sitting on the beach, it’s catching up the latest trends, celebrity outfits, and this season’s best looks. I think I annoy my friends though, because I am constantly ripping out pages to keep and refer back to when I’m writing future blog posts! Girl’s gotta stay on trend, am I right?! 🙂
A few other random items you will find in my beach bag include my monogrammed Tervis Tumbler for my morning coffee, a monogrammed Koozie to put over plastic cups, a wrap headband to pull my hair back from the wind, an embroidered coverup to be chic yet appropriate when I walk around the resort, and my Rainbow flip flops because they are the most comfortable shoes ever.
I would love to hear what you can’t do without when you’re relaxing on the beach! Sending you lots of sunshine and warmth this week!
