I’m so excited to share this new home project I’ve been working on– my floating shelves gallery wall in my bedroom! My good friend Sarah of Keeping it Beezy (which you will find to be the most hysterical and real blog on the Internet), did floating shelves in her bedroom, and I basically want to do everything that she does, so I did floating shelves in my bedroom.

I absolutely love how they turned out and how flexible they are. You can change them out or rearrange them literally whenever you want. So it’s like a gallery wall without the permanent commitment of mailing frames in the wall!  In hanging and styling these two shelves, I learned three things…

Three tips for a floating shelf gallery wall:

1. Get a Handyman to Hang Them

Unless you are equipped to use a power drill, measure the center of your wall in accordance to the size of the shelves, and balance everything so that it’s even and sturdy, then you should hire a handy man or call your boyfriend. I chose to use two of these 36″ shelves and hang them side by side with a little bit of space in between. I found a handyman in Philly on Task Rabbit and he was a PRO at hanging them both up perfectly. It was so so worth it.

2. Stick With a Color Scheme

You know that I firmly believe in sticking with a color scheme for most things, and this was no different. I went with soft pinks, tropical blues and greens, and gold and white neutrals (surprise!) and loved how the color palette worked together on the shelves and coordinates with my bedroom. My advice would be to decide on around 3 colors and base all of your artwork, prints, photos, etc. around them.

3. Vary the Things on the Shelves

Diversify your décor! I don’t think it would look as interesting to just have six unified white frames on the two shelves. Instead I have a letter board, a painting, a real life photo, and three prints. I used both gold bamboo frames and white frames to give it more varied texture– and I threw in pink and green cosmo lights just for a little spark. 😉
