Battle of the Most Popular Jean Shorts

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found it a little bit challenging to find jean shorts that are high quality, aren’t too short or long, and make me feel confident wearing them. Jean shorts can just be tricky that way (as can jeans, so I dove more into my petite-friendly trendy jean recs recently as well!), so my goal is for this post to give you two solid recommendations.

I went with two of the most popular and widely bought jean shorts– the Abercrombie Curve Love High Rise Mom Shorts and the Agolde Parker Vintage Cut Off Shorts… and decided to review and compare both! I choose similar medium/light washes and used my best judgement on sizing, and here are my reviews…

Abercrombie Curve Love High Rise Mom Shorts

Price: On SALE for $29.50

Fit: Run true to size but if you’re in between sizes size up

Color: Medium-Light Ripped Wash

My Thoughts: These are a great high-waist length, in which you can wear a crop top and not have your belly hanging out. They are made with Abercrombie’s proprietary ‘curve love’ fit which accentuates all of your curves and makes your booty pop (I talked more about the ‘curve love’ fit of my Abercrombie jeans recently as well!). They fit perfectly on my waist, yet aren’t too tight on my thighs (the tiny slit on the side of them helps with this!). The material feels super high quality and has a bit stretch (they’re 1% elastane and 99% cotton). Plus, this ‘medium-light ripped wash’ is distressed just enough to my liking without having any holes.

Price: $128

Fit: Size up one size

Color: Swapmeet

My Thoughts: These are a best seller on Revolve for a reason– they look like the cool light wash vintage jean shorts you would have made by cutting jeans yourself, but with a perfectly executed frayed hem. They are high-rise but don’t go all the way up to my belly-button, and fit like I’ve had them for years– perfectly (and not too tight!) around my waist and thighs. I particularly love how soft they are (they’re 100% cotton), and surprisingly comfortable considering they have little to no stretch in the material. These are definitely the type of jeans shorts I’ll have for years to come, so I didn’t mind making the ‘investment’ at all. Side note– they sell out often but they can also be purchased via Verishop and Agolde directly if they’re out of stock via Revolve.

The Verdict

These are both are designed to be classic cut-offs that hug me at the waist but are roomier throughout the hem and not too tight on my thighs– and for that reason I love them (free the thighs!! Let them breathe!). The Abercrombie pair are a little bit more high rise and stretchy than the Agolde pair, and far less expensive (nearly $100 less right now). For these specific washes, the Abercrombie pair is definitely a little bit darker as well.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with either (especially considering how great of a deal the Abercrombie pair is right now!), but there’s just something about the Agolde pair that feel like the perfect vintage-esq shorts to me. Sizing up in them was key too, and they still feel flattering without being too tight. The Agolde pair may (slightly) take the lead for me here, but I’d encourage you to try out either (or both!!) to see what works best for your price point and bod, because they both are seriously incredible! xx
