I’ll admit that I’ve been hanging on to these photos for quite some time, and have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to share them all! What better month than January… as we’re decluttering, organizing, and getting prepped for the year ahead?
My love of closet organization started a long time ago, when I was a little girl and would spend hours color coding and situating my closet and clothes (somehow this was, and still is, fun for me). I took it to another level when I was introduced to Kate Turk, of House of Turk, when I lived in Philadelphia. Kate is a professional organizer and transformed my old closet, even helping me with a seasonal closet changeover as well! I used to store half of my clothes under my bed (who remembers my apartment bedroom in Philly?!) and half in my closet, and then change them over for spring/summer and fall/winter.
Since then I’ve obviously moved to New York City, and before doing so I donated or sold more than half of my clothing, so I no longer have to do seasonal closet changeovers for colder and warmer months. It didn’t hurt that I upgraded to a bigger closet too 😉. I’ve also kept all of the organizational items that Kate recommended I get in Philly, and they still work for my closet now (and thankfully she taught me how to use them all and adapt them to various spaces).
I do keep a bin of skiing and festive holiday clothing under our bed, but everything else I own is in my closet! And don’t worry, Johnny has his own double-door closet in the bedroom, I wouldn’t hog this whole thing if he didn’t… and believe me when I say he’s happy we don’t share one 😂.
I am constantly cycling through clothes for the reviews and collaborations I do for the blog, so I try to keep it as sustainable and simple as possible by keeping my favorites in this closet and trying to not let it get to stuffed by consistently donating or selling my extra clothes (I don’t have the time for Poshmark but have found ThredUp to be really useful!).
So that’s how I’ve been organizing and fitting everything in my closet! It’s easily one of my favorite spots in the apartment (and by far the girliest). It’s almost like a little jewel box where I can see almost everything displayed and even sit in silence with a glass of wine if I want (I’m not above it 😂).
It was recently featured here on The Spruce, as well as my closet in Philly too! There’s a lot more closet inspo in those articles as well.
