Sweet Summertime

Summer is definitely my favorite season for entertaining, and also the season that I spend the most time with my family and friends. Vacation time just seems easier to come by and when you can eat, drink, and hang out outside the opportunities feel endless.

So I wanted to share how I put together a happy, vibrant, full tablescape that’s exactly the type of table I’d want to sit around for hours, sipping rosé and chatting. I set this one up on the rooftop of our apartment building in New York, and love how the lush nature of the flowers on the roof contrast with the steel skyline in the background! Truly a view that only NYC can boast.

How to Create a Summery Tablescape

I thought this would be the perfect time to break down my perfect ‘recipe’ for a beautiful and welcoming summer tablescape… here are a few musts for me!

  • A printed tablecloth (duh!)– This is the base of the table setting that grounds it and/or ties in the main colors you’re using. Of course I’m partial to a good print– I just think it spices things up and is the difference between a meeting (ehem beige tablecloth) and a party.
  • Textured place settings— Layer on the placemats, chargers, plates, napkins/napkin rings, etc. to create a “full” and elevated look that will take the table to the next level. I really love starting the base with a woven or rattan placemat or charger!
  • Vibrant flowers– I always opt to pick up a few bunches of whatever’s catching my eye at a bodega and combine them into one vase. I also try to have the colors coordinate with the tablecloth and plates I’m using, but it when it comes to flowers it’s the more the merrier– go crazy!
  • Chilled rosé— This is obviously a given 😉, but a beautiful bottle of rosé can absolutely “make” the table setting (and the party). Choose your favorite brand (no shame in picking out a bottle based on the label too 😂 ) and set it on the table or in an ice bucket so it’s easily accessible to refill everyone’s glasses. I also always try to have a pitcher full of ice water with sliced lemons on hand too!

The only thing missing now is takeout (lol I’m not cooking) and friends. 😊
