Ciao! You’ve landed on one of the travel diaries from my post-graduation trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast! I divided it up by the places we visited on which days, so there are detailed posts for each city we visited, and then a post that gives a general overview of our travel itinerary for all 10 days. This post covers the days that we were in Capri.

Day 6: Capri

• We took a ferry from Positano to Capri, which only took about 25 minutes. Once on the island, we met a representative from our hotel who took our luggage up the mountain to where we were staying. Tip: definitely set up ahead of time to send up your luggage with someone from your hotel because it would have been almost impossible for us to get up the mountain and walk to our hotel with all of ours!
• There’s a cable car that we took to get to the main square in Capri, which is located halfway up the mountain of the island. We received our cable car tickets from our hotel guide so we just hopped on and went to the main square. From the main square we walked about 15 minutes to our hotel.

• We then checked into the hotel and had a bite to eat by the pool. We took it easy for the afternoon and just hung out and read by the various pools that were on the hotel’s property.

• Dinner: Paolino (also known as The Lemon Tree)
  • My mom described this restaurant as “a treat for the eyes and the mouth.” There are thousands of lemons hanging above your head as you eat outside because the restaurant is quite literally built into a lemon tree grove. This is a true Capri experience and we loved every second! Tip: definitely get the desert in the “desert room”!! I’ve never seen anything like it before.

• Stayed in: Hotel la Scalinatella
  • This hotel was gorgeous and quaint– we felt like we were in Greece at some points! It has multiple pools overlooking the ocean and big jacuzzi tubs in our rooms! If you’re blue and white décor obsessed then you would be all over the blue and white tiling and details that are throughout the hotel. It’s in a prime location about a five minute walk from town, but still secluded enough so that it’s not noisy or busy at all nearby. The staff was very helpful in making our reservations and bookings as well– which was so useful because Capri has so many opportunities for adventures that you want to get them all in!  

Day 7: Capri

• In the morning we had breakfast on the hotel’s deck (they hand out mini jars of nutella… it’s dangerous) and then walked down the mountain to the water at the bottom.
• We walked through the beach club, La Fontelina, and picked up a private boat there that took us on a tour all around the coast of the island (our hotel made the boat reservations for us).

• From the boat we toured the grottos (caves) along the coast for about two hours, and then got dropped off into a tiny row boat that took us into the Blue Grotto (tip: definitely splurge for the private boat to take you around the island and get you to the blue grotto– we saw a few boats packed with tourists and it didn’t look like a personalized or comfortable experience).

We were only in the Blue Grotto for a few minutes (it’s tiny!) but it was such a magical experience 

• We got off the little row boat on a ledge right next to the Blue Grotto and waited there for a bus that took us up the mountain again to Anacapri. 
• After getting off at the bus stop on the edge of Anacapri’s main square, we explored the surrounding area and walked all over, grabbing a slice of pizza and peeking into churches along the way. 
• We then walked back to the main square (Vittoria Square) and caught the lift up to the very top of Anacapri. Tip: It’s honestly more like a swing than a life, so it isn’t for the faint of hearts! If you’re afraid of heights then it could definitely be a scary situation, but it’s so so worth it if you can get past that and take the 10 minute swing to the top! 
• After that we took a cab back to our hotel to get ready for dinner.

• Dinner: La Palette
  • We asked our hotel to recommend a restaurant that was casual and not too far from our hotel. They suggested this and we walked about 15 minutes uphill to get to it. It’s a little family owned house that was converted into a restaurant. It overlooks a lot of the island and the sea so it serves up a gorgeous view and yummy home cooked meals! It was my dad’s favorite meal of the trip, though I liked the champagne more than my meal 😉 

We were there for sunset which was a perfect way to start dinner 

• Stayed in: Hotel la Scalinatella
• The next morning we had an early breakfast on the hotel’s deck and had someone from the hotel take our luggage down to the ferry dock. We then took the cable car back down the mountain, said goodbye to Capri, and caught the ferry back to Positano, where we were then picked up and driven to Ravello… Check out our full Ravello travel diary!
