Changed Birthday Plans

I’ve been sharing this over on Instagram stories a lot, but I recently had to pivot our plans for Johnny’s birthday weekend in Mexico because we didn’t feel comfortable promoting recreational international travel quite yet (this post shares more about my future bucket list!). So we cancelled the trip and decided to stay home for the long weekend of Valentine’s and Presidents’ Day!

As so many of you know, his birthday is on Valentine’s Day (which I personally think is the cutest birthday date ever) and it also happens to be the day that he asked me to be his girlfriend six years ago… no pressure, right?!

So I always try to do something extra special on the 14th, since it’s so many meaningful occasions rolled into one day. This time, I thought it would be nostalgic and fun to recreate the dinner I set up for him in my sophomore dorm room six years  ago, when we celebrated his birthday together for the first time and he asked me to be his girlfriend.

A Romantic Dinner In

So naturally I scoured Amazon for a pretty pink and green block print tablecloth, new cabbage plates, a fondue pot (because why not!), and a cheeky heart banner. I secured a menu of Swiss fondue, wood fired pizza, and champagne, which were the same items we ate six years ago (ok, the champagne was slightly nicer this time around 😊).

I had
I had Johnny stay in our room for about 45 minutes while I set up (only to find out that he took a nice cat nap during that time lol) and then he came out to see our dining table transformed. It was honestly just the evening that we needed, and really made us feel like we were at a special dinner date and not at the table we eat at every night.

Thank you all for following along as I gathered all of the supplies and put it together with your help! I would highly recommend picking up any of the items I used for the tablescape (especially the fondue pot and the fondue omg– it was also SO easy to make) and recreating it for a dinner with your roommates, girlfriends, or significant other. xx
