Apartment Office Update

So I honestly haven’t done much to our apartment since we moved in last October– we managed to get the decor situated pretty quickly and have just been enjoying it ever since! So as we approach our one year anniversary of living here, I’ve been thinking about making a few tweaks and updates.

Then it just so happened that one weekend this summer my sister was going to borrow my car, and was trying to bring rattan shelves to Long Beach Island (she was switching them out for something different in her apartment!). Long story short but we realized she needed the trunk space in my car, so the shelves wound up in my apartment… and I decided to keep them!

It turns out that they fit perfectly in the little nook in my office area, and once I figured that out I was just too tempted to not decorate them! My philosophy for decorating a space is simple– have a general color scheme and then pick things that reflect and show the places and people you love the most! That’s exactly how we went about putting together my office, our living room, our dining area, and our bedroom.

For these shelves, I mainly pulled from things I already had in the apartment, but added in a few new details like this glass mercury ball, acrylic tray, and Mykonos book (due to our recent trip to Greece!). I played around with stacking items for dimensions and mixing textures– like acrylic, glass, and faux pearls, to really add some life to the shelves!

They ended up being an eclectic mixture of books that are special to me (my godmother bought the Eloise book to me when I was born and gave it to me on my 21st birthday!) and the people and places I adore (some of my all-time favorite photos are included). It’s the addition to my office that I didn’t even know I needed, and I’m excited to update it a bit from season to season and have this cheery spot right next to me every day as I work!
